Art direction and planning for the Brand Photoshoot of my dreams. I have always been hopelessly drawn to the world of photography. There is a reason why the majority of my design clients over the past three years have been wedding photographers—it’s a creative field that never ceases to interest and inspires me. While at this point, I don’t find myself in a role behind the camera lens, art direction and planning for studio shoots is something I just can’t get enough of.
In the Spring of 2023, I started getting serious about moving forward with my own rebrand (from Homebody Creative to Softe Studio). After a season of reflection, strategy realignment, and sweet calls with my brand messaging queen, Rachel of Scout House, I had come to a place of clarity on the heart and vision for Softe Studio. From here, planning the SS’23 brand shoot was one of the first (and most exciting!) things on my to-do list.
Every element of the brand photoshoot was thoughtfully curated to be fully aligned with the heart of Softe—from the collaborators I hired to the art and decor brought from my home studio. As I planned the shot list, outfits, and printable designs, everything else started falling into place. I found Fruitful Studio, a natural light photo studio in NE Minneapolis, and had the opportunity to be one of the first creatives in the space. On the search for a digital and film photographer, I was referred to Kristin of Blue Mae Studio and immediately clicked over our mutual affinity for film photos, flash photography, and vintage camcorder video (all of which we ended up playing with on set). I had the sweetest pleasure of connecting with Beck at Pansy Floral and hiring her to create unconventional floral magic for the session. Lastly, I reached out to my friend and long-time designer crush, Somos Studios, for her printing expertise!
The day on set was laid-back and full of creative play, thanks to a whole lot of preparation and a dreamy vendor team that went above and beyond. Almost a year later now and I still look at the brand photoshoot day and final result so fondly.
